What Clients Say
I started coming to Feldenkrais when I heard about it from a friend and I thought it sounded interesting. I am now in my forties and busy with a young family. Over the last couple of years, I found my body no longer did things that I once found easy. I had aches and pains. I thought there must be a reason for it and an easier way to do things.
Since coming to classes I am more aware of the way my body moves and how to move more freely. I don’t just do anymore; but I think of better ways to do things.
Most people have a mid-life crisis at forty and buy a new car etc. I started karate and I knew if I wanted to take it seriously and be good at it, I needed to learn to move in a better way. Feldenkrais has helped immensely. I love coming to class each week. This is my “me time” to relax. I get to forget about everything else and focus. Brenda is a fantastic teacher, and the class welcoming. They are a group of like-minded people all wanting to move freely so they can live their lives into the future.
I have been going to classes with Brenda for over 10 years now. When I look back over those years, I realise that I move a lot easier now. I can enjoy my body and all the things that I like to doing: biking, walking and gardening – all pain free! The movements and the focus on body awareness is what it is about. I find the classes enjoyable, and it is easy to follow Brenda’s instructions. I also really enjoy the meditative aspect of the class. So relaxing!
I came to Brenda because I had become very restricted in my movements. In particular, I had stiffness, pain and tension in my neck, shoulders, hips and legs. This affected my ability to do my work repairing cars. Since working with Brenda, I move much more freely everywhere. Everyday activities such turning to look when reversing the car, bending down to pick things up, reaching under the bonnet, and even washing my feet, are much easier. I enjoy playing golf and rotating my torso as I swing a club has improved. I have individual sessions with Brenda and there is noticeable improvement after almost every visit.
Understanding how sometimes obscure parts of the body interact, and practicing in the class has been amazing and the ease of our movements continues to increase. We look forward to continuing to learn, and developing more and more balance and flexibility. Many, many thanks.
I find it hard to explain to my friends about my Feldenkrais Classes, so I just refer to them as my stretch and grow classes because I always feel taller at the end.
Thank you Brenda for the excellent lessons you give in the Feldenkrais method. I admire your enthusiasm, your knowledge of movement and the human body, and your clear way of teaching.
I have benefitted hugely from the Feldenkrais lessons. My posture has improved out of bounds. My back has straightened. I no longer have pain in my shoulders when I swim. I am very much more aware of how to do movements safely and with less effort; even like turning my head when driving, or when getting down to the floor or off the floor.
I fully intend to continue with Brenda’s lessons and can recommend the Feldenkrais method to anyone who wants to be aware of what the body can and cannot do and at the same time stay fit and supple.
Brenda is New Zealand’s best kept secret. Apart from her extensive knowledge of how to move your body without effort or pain, she is a delight to work with.
I went to Brenda for private sessions to work on how to sit, stand and relax my body properly. After years of computer and desk work I’d lost the ability to get comfortable in any position. Despite trying physio, osteo, massage, acupuncture, a chiropractor and medication on a regular basis, I still suffered neck, shoulder and back pain most days. In 6 months Brenda has not only taught me how to relieve pain myself, but how to operate differently to avoid creating pain in the first place.
I had no idea that my habits played such a large part. Thank you Brenda for your careful planning of my progress and for laughing with me when I am so, so silly! I hope the All Blacks never find out about you.
This is my third year of coming along to Feldenkrais classes and over this time I have learnt so much about my body and mind. I came because I suffered from long term shoulder and neck pain; and Brenda has taught me how to move my body correctly and use the right muscles for the right job!! I so look forward to my weekly classes, lying on the floor, stretching out, relaxing and letting go of the stresses of the day; then learning something new that gently challenges my mind as well as my body. We have a good laugh as well.
I have been attending Brenda’s weekly classes for over five years now. They have been exceptionally beneficial for me. Learning and understanding how my body moves has enabled me not to lose those necessary movements as I age. Having this mental and physical awareness is so important. As a keen lawn bowler, I know that the classes with Brenda will enable me to continue to play my chosen sport for several years yet.
I have been attending Brenda’s “Get Moving” classes for just over a year and during that time I have noticed and experienced improvements in the way I stand and move, thanks to Brenda’s patience and encouragement. People who know me make positive comments about how my walking has improved. “I can’t” is always met with, “Yes you can” as Brenda gently and slowly guides you through the movement until you are confident. I really enjoy the classes and look forward to each week knowing that there will be something new and challenging for me to learn. Brenda’s passion and enthusiasm for Feldenkrais is infectious and helps others to learn and appreciate the Feldenkrais Method.
I have suffered with chronic back pain for over 20 years and throughout that time I have been seen by many pain specialists and therapists without much relief. However, learning how to move with the Feldenkrais Method lessons has reduced my pain levels considerably and I am now able to do things I never thought I would do again. Hey, I just completed the Milford Track walk – four days walking with a full pack!
I had a knee injury which required surgery. Afterwards I found walking very painful. A friend suggested trying Brenda’s Feldenkrais classes.
I have been going to class for over a year now and find the series of movements easy to follow and pain-free! I like the fact that each person controls the movements at his/her pace. I have noticed that I am enjoying walking more freely and without pain.
I committed to 10 weekly private lessons with Brenda. From the very beginning I was fascinated with how much opportunity for change there was available to me with the Feldenkrais method. Consciously doing less, with awareness, was a huge awakening for me.
Less really is more.
