Returning to normal sexual function after childbirth can be elusive for many women. While incontinence or sexual dysfunction may be common, it’s never normal.
Pelvic floor weakness impacts many women with 33% still suffering problems five years after childbirth. Women can experience problems such as incontinence, prolapse of one or more pelvic organs, and sexual dysfunction. These problems interfere with their ability to have normal healthy lives where it is possible to participate in activities without embarrassment, pain or anxiety.
For example, incontinence can happen during exercise or when coughing, sneezing or laughing. Some women experience a frequent urge or go ‘just in case’ to avoid embarrassing leakages. Some will only venture out to places where they know there is a bathroom handy.
Traditional exercises such as Kegels isolate the pelvic floor muscles to strengthen them. This can be ineffective for many as the pelvic floor muscles don’t work in isolation, but as part of your whole-body function. It is not so much about “strengthening” muscles, but teaching the brain to coordinate the many muscles that form the pelvic floor structure to function appropriately for you.
In this 4 hour workshop, you will learn what to do to improve your pelvic floor function, and how to do it. You will experience how the pelvic floor muscles work with the breath and with muscles in the lower abdomen, inner thighs, hips and buttocks, using full body movements. Learn some basic anatomy and physiology so you understand how your body is designed to function. Easy to follow take-home notes will help you remember everything you learn at this workshop. No need to bring anything but your curiosity. Wear comfortable clothes (includes wearing pants).
Brenda Stickley, Certified Feldenkrais ® Practitioner, Yoga Instructor and 20+ years nursing and nursing education will lead you through every step of the workshop. Brenda provides a sensitive, safe and relaxed environment to support your learning – plus a scrummy morning tea!

“Brenda’s pelvic floor workshop has been very beneficial to me. With her clear instructions and sensitive approach I have become the boss of my bladder rather than my bladder being the boss of me. Learning to strengthen my pelvic floor by becoming more aware of how my body works and through full body movement has meant that I am making my body work for me. I would highly recommend a Feldenkrais Pelvic Floor Workshop to people who want to be in control of the number of trips to the ‘Powder Room’.” – Female, 48 years
“I recently attended Brenda’s Pelvic Floor workshop. It was a very friendly group of ladies – just the right number. The venue was easy to find, cosy & peaceful. The workshop was enjoyable and a great way to “re-awaken” my awareness of my long forgotten Pelvic Floor. Don’t wait until you’re 58 to re-awaken yours! There were a few giggles along the way and a delicious morning tea; and very helpful hand-outs for going forward. ” – Female, 58 years
“After attending the Pelvic Floor Restore workshop I realised that I needed individual help with my problem. I had amazing results from private lessons with Brenda. In six weeks Brenda enabled me to connect my brain to my pelvic floor muscles. Poor pelvic floor function has been a life time problem for me. I have had two operations to try and deal with incontinence, but the root cause remained. Brenda’s patience and good humour enabled the whole process to happen much swifter than I expected. Thanks a million Brenda – this has changed my life.” – Female, 75 years
