5 Biggest Differences To Other Methods
The Feldenkrais Method takes a different approach to improving your health. Here are the 5 biggest differences you’ll notice when you get moving with Brenda.
No workout, no sweat
There’s no muscle building in the Feldenkrais Method® . It’s not a sport or a workout. In a Feldenkrais session you use your own mental capabilities and the capabilities of your nervous system. The benefits of the Feldenkrais Method are achieved through learning how your particular body functions. Movements are small and subtle. Less is best.
No stretching, no-warm ups, no cool-downs. In fact, stretching beyond your limits is discouraged. Instead, your body will learn how to organise itself better and you’ll discover an increased range of motion without exertion or overstretching.
There are no drills or blind repetitions. You will definitely repeat movements, but in a vastly different way. In the Feldenkrais Method, movement is made in the context of awareness. Subtle discovery of differences is how you learn new and better ways.
No rights and wrongs
In a Feldenkrais class you won’t learn poses, steps, holds or postures. There’s nothing to correct or perfect. The purpose is to learn awareness to help you discover a better way for your body to achieve better movement and increase the range of movement for you.
No dress code, competition or clan
There’s no dress code for a Feldenkrais class. There are no stars, experts or perfect ways to be. And there are no competitions, awards, or achievement levels. A Feldenkrais class is an independent learning experience for people who want to improve their quality of movement to improve their quality of life. You remain fully clothed throughout. Wear whatever feels comfortable to you.
